Great photos from the Star-Telegram!

Please enjoy these great photos of the Howard Cabin and our Cooking Camp courtesy the Star-Telegram!

(and no, the Village itself was never closed. Just the Howard Cabin. But the photos are still great.)

Pinhole Photography, Part Deux...

Hey! Remember last week when we told you about Donny Cox, the awesome guy with the pinhole camera? Well today he stopped back by with a couple of images from his photo session. Aren't they great? You may recognize Mr. Cox's "model" as none other than our own Michael Garrett.

Enjoy!

Reason #24893 why working in a museum is the best gig ever...

#24893. You unexpectedly get to meet the most amazing and interesting people!

Today we were fortunate enough to have local photographic enthusiast Donny Cox visit us with his pinhole camera. He's outside taking some shots as we speak, and he's even volunteered to share some with us once they're developed!
Hopefully someday we can get a group shot of "the Village People" (our staff) using technology that would have been available during the 19th century. How appropriate!

The photos are of Mr. Cox's camera (and Mr. Cox's hands).

Beautiful image shared by a visitor...

Today we were reminded, once again, of how special Log Cabin Village truly is, and how incredible our visitors are! Sherman, Texas, resident Steve Hagan and his family recently visited us for the second time this year. They were generous enough to share this beautiful photo they took in the herb garden during their visit. They were also gracious enough to allow me to share this image with you.

Thank you very much, Hagan family! We hope to see you again soon...

Hey! We want to keep up with our visitors and fans! As such, we have started a new Flickr group just for Village photos. We still want to see the Village through YOUR eyes!

Please contribute your photos here...

As always, you can be our fan on Facebook and follow us on Twitter as well. We'll "see" you around!

Our first photos from "The Village Through YOUR Eyes..."

Yay! We've got some great photos from dedicated Village visitors! These are local fans, Jeff and Jordana. Jordana has been a friend of the Village for quite a while, coming to many of our events in costume. We're so pleased to have these photos from an event we had in February of 2007. Thanks for sending them in, Jeanette!

Reminder...you can send us your photos any time and we'll be happy to post them on our blog! We want to see the Village through YOUR eyes!!!

Oh the weather outside is frightful...

...but at our event this past Saturday, it was SO DELIGHTFUL!

We had a great time stringing popcorn, playing dreidel, finishing our winter count, making pomander balls, and embossing cards. Here are a few pictures of all the fun...just in case you missed it (click on slideshow for larger images and to control the speed):

Here's also a couple of shots of the Mill's water wheel today...when the weather was not quite so delightful...

The Village through YOUR eyes...

Although we are in the business of "the past," we definitely love utilizing the tools of the present (as evidenced by our use of blogs, web sites, Shelfari, Facebook--have you become our fan yet?, etc.)

One thing we particularly enjoy is "Googling" the term "Log Cabin Village" to see what comes up! Blog postings, calendar mentions, user reviews...we love seeing them all! If they're good, we are excited. If they mention weaknesses...well...we take that into consideration and make improvements.

Most of all we love seeing photographs that people have taken here and then published on the web. It's fun seeing the Village through other people's eyes! They notice details we may have missed and focus on things we may not realize are important.

We want to see the Village through YOUR eyes. Please send me your photos...and I will consolidate them into an online album which I will post here! Photos can be of anything Village-related...be it your family, one of our cabins, or something else that was just inspired by your visit. Please include your first name, your city, and the photo's caption.

The deadline is January 15, 2009...so get those photos in!

Scenes from the Village on a Wintry morning...

I've always theorized that Log Cabin Village is so scenic, you can point your camera any direction, "click," and come out with a beautiful photograph. The images are made even more breathtaking when snow dots the landscape.
For your viewing pleasure--
