It just makes cents...

As many of you have figured out by now, we are log cabin lovers. We love preserving them, we love showing them off, we love rebuilding them, we love teaching about them...and we love seeing artistic renditions of them...especially when these art pieces fit in your pocket.

Now before you think that I'm completely crazy (about cabins), let me explain. The year 2009 marks Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday. To celebrate, the U.S. Mint is releasing a series of pennies to commemorate Lincoln's life, beginning with a log cabin penny representing his childhood.

Given the down state of the economy, however, the new log cabin pennies have been circulating more slowly than usual. Although released in February, we just saw our first one today!

And boy did we (me) get excited! Thanks to Michael (one of our Village people) for showing it to us...and letting me keep it in my drawer for luck.

It seems like Log Cabin Village should have some sort of promotion to celebrate the log cabin penny. What do y'all think? Ideas? (sorry...you'll have to do better than suggesting "one penny" admission... :) )

Our first photos from "The Village Through YOUR Eyes..."

Yay! We've got some great photos from dedicated Village visitors! These are local fans, Jeff and Jordana. Jordana has been a friend of the Village for quite a while, coming to many of our events in costume. We're so pleased to have these photos from an event we had in February of 2007. Thanks for sending them in, Jeanette!

Reminder...you can send us your photos any time and we'll be happy to post them on our blog! We want to see the Village through YOUR eyes!!!

Two important reminders...

First of all...we will have members of the Lone Star Dutch Oven Society here on Saturday. You don't want to miss this!

Whatcha Got Cookin’?

1:00—4:00 p.m.
Join us in welcoming the Prairie Dog Chapter of the Lone Star Dutch Oven Society to the Village as they show us how everything from soup to dessert can be prepared in a cast iron pot! Get your hands “dirty” as you discover frontier foodways for yourself. The weather may be cool, but things will be heating up around here!

No reservations required. Cost is regular Village admission plus a $2 fee to make your own “foodie” craft.

Also...the deadline for submission of your photos is fast approaching! Get those Village photos in!

The Village through YOUR eyes...

Although we are in the business of "the past," we definitely love utilizing the tools of the present (as evidenced by our use of blogs, web sites, Shelfari, Facebook--have you become our fan yet?, etc.)

One thing we particularly enjoy is "Googling" the term "Log Cabin Village" to see what comes up! Blog postings, calendar mentions, user reviews...we love seeing them all! If they're good, we are excited. If they mention weaknesses...well...we take that into consideration and make improvements.

Most of all we love seeing photographs that people have taken here and then published on the web. It's fun seeing the Village through other people's eyes! They notice details we may have missed and focus on things we may not realize are important.

We want to see the Village through YOUR eyes. Please send me your photos...and I will consolidate them into an online album which I will post here! Photos can be of anything Village-related...be it your family, one of our cabins, or something else that was just inspired by your visit. Please include your first name, your city, and the photo's caption.

The deadline is January 15, 2009...so get those photos in!

Corn husk dolls...revisited...

Okay...so last month I issued a request--send me photos of your corn husk dolls after you made them.

My email inbox is sad.

So I'm sending a reminder... Send me a photo of you and your finished corn husk doll (plus your first name and the city where you live)...and we'll publish it here on our blog!

Hoping to hear my inbox "ding" soon... :) :)

Audience participation...

Okay...so by now you may have read the post on corn husk dolls that I wrote earlier today. And that got me thinking...wouldn't it be great to see the corn husk dolls that Log Cabin Village's friends come up with?

So now, more than ever, I want to hear from all of you out there in the blogosphere. If you make a corn husk doll, either using the instructional video highlighted here or of your own design, send me a picture of you and your doll! Be sure to include your first name, age, and city of residence. I will feature these pictures on a future blog entry...probably sometime in December.

I'm watching my mailbox as we speak...so send 'em in!
