Chicken and cornbread and beans...oh my!

We had the best time at the "Whatcha Got Cooking?" daycamp this morning! Thanks so much to our "cast iron" chefs and the Village People for another great program!

Cooking Camp 2010!

Last week we enjoyed the company of seven lovely young ladies as we hosted our annual "Whatcha Got Cooking?" summer camp? In three hours time, these ladies prepared a full meal of roast chicken with herbs, pinto beans, fried potatoes, cornbread, and apple crisp from scratch over a fire pit. They, of course, had a "little" help from our head fire pit chef Fred and historical interpreters Linda and Marcela.

Whatcha Got Cookin'?

Do you dream of chestnuts (or anything else) roasting on an open fire? Do black pots make you green with envy? If so, then we have the event for you!

Join us on Saturday, January 9th, from 1-4 p.m., as we host the Prairie Dog chapter of the Lone Star Dutch Oven Society! They'll be preparing a number of items, all using cast iron implements and cooking tables. They may use "modern" charcoal, but their methods are definitely frontier. From appetizers to dessert, you'll see it all!

Admission is $4.50 for adults age 18 and over, $4 for ages 4-17 and seniors 65+, and no charge for ages 3 and under. There is a $2 craft fee if you wish to collect frontier recipe cards to complete a book.
